Grief and Bereavement

The group offers emotional support and assistance to those grieving the loss of loved ones and since its inception over 400 bereaved individuals have been helped to start and stay on the road to recovery and acceptance.

Meetings are held twelve months a year, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 7:30pm and every 3rd Wednesday at 2:00pm. During July and August evening meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays.

The group has found that grief does not take a vacation. The setting is informal and relaxed and the feelings and thoughts of each member are respected, allowing participants to speak freely and openly. Each meeting is based upon a specific subject. Readings and handouts are prepared and read, allowing the moderator to begin the discussion among participants. All discussions are held in the strictest confidence, and participants address one another on a first name basis. Confidentiality is an absolute necessity for the successful healing of group members.

All who have attended the Grief and Bereavement Support Group over the years are invited to two annual services celebrated by the clergy, at which the names of the departed are read. In December, the Christmas Tree Memorial Service is held and attendees are invited to place ornaments on a special Christmas tree in memory of their loved ones. During the Paschal season the Spring Memorial Service is held outside (weather permitting) in front of the Grief and Bereavement dwarf weeping cherry tree garden area. A boulder stands before the tree containing a plaque with the following inscription: In Memory Of Our Departed Loved Ones and In Celebration Of Their Lives. Christ is Risen and life reigns!
